Syrian Guest Students Received "Turkish Certificates"

35 students who successfully completed A1 entry level courses in Turkish courses offered at Turkish Red Crescent Ankara Community Centre as part of the collaboration of Yunus Emre Enstitüsü (YEE) and the Turkish Red Crescent, received their certificates in the certificate ceremony held at Enstitü's headquarters in Ulus.

In the certificate ceremony, Yunus Emre Enstitüsü President Prof. Dr. Şeref ATEŞ, and Turkish Red Crescent Ankara Community Center Project Coordinator Ruşen ÇETİNKAYA were also present.

YEE President ATEŞ who made the opening speech at the ceremony, said that they work towards making Turkish language instruction more competent for Syrians in Turkey and continued as follows:

"As Yunus Emre Enstitüsü, we do our best for our Syrian guests to adapt to our country. We support children in growing up as well-equipped individuals not only in the field of language but also with the 'Robotic Education' offered to Syrian children. Today we are here in consequence of the efforts you have given to learn our language. We are very pleased that you learn Turkish. By receiving your certificates, you have proved us how much you want to learn Turkish. The Lord created different nations so that we might meet and merge. We are delighted to teach our language that is the most important means of communication and the carrier of culture, and to speak Turkish here and communicate with you."

Turkish Red Crescent Ankara Community Centre Deputy Project Coordinator Ruşen ÇETİNKAYA stated the following in his speech: "Due to the conflicts that have occurred, millions of Syrians have  abandoned their homes and taken shelter in Turkey. As Turkish Red Crescent, we have tried and still try to assist our brothers and sisters with many issues. At the Community Centres, we provide services for our guests to adapt to life through language and vocational courses. We are pleased to be here today at the certificate ceremony of the project we have carried out together with Yunus Emre Enstitüsü that is an expert in the field of language instruction and we have received support from. "

Abdullah KASAVAT, who made a speech on behalf of the students who received certificates, said, "We have learned Turkish at A1 level. We thank Yunus Emre Enstitüsü and Turkish Red Crescent very much. We will continue to attend courses to improve our Turkish skills.”

The ceremony ended with the presentation of certificates to trainees who have successfully completed the course.

Yunus Emre Enstitüsü contributes to operations carried out for Syrian refugees to overcome the language barrier in their adaptation to the society. Turkish lessons aimed at adults and children, given by Enstitü's lecturers specialized and experienced in the field of language instruction and supported by various activities and interactive methods, are held at Turkish Red Crescent Ankara Community Centre. Enstitü also prepared a teaching set called "Turkish for Children (ÇİT)" for the target group between ages of 6 and 9, who learn Turkish as a foreign language, and especially Syrian children. In addition to preparing material that teach Turkish through games, activities and songs,  "Turkish Proficiency Test (TPT)" that allows young Syrians at college level to certify their Turkish language proficiency level, is free for refugees with refugee cards and offered at a 50 % discount for asylum seekers without refugee cards. Enstitü continues to organize a number of activities in fields such as technology, design and art in order to create environments where young Syrians may benefit for self-improvement and enhance their communication with their peers.
