Sad Loss of Literature World: Servet Kabaklı Passed Away

Director of Turkish Literature Foundation and Yeniçağ newspaper columnist Servet Kabaklı passed away in Istanbul Haseki Training and Research Hospital where he had been receiving treatment for some time. We offer our deepest condolences, and may he rest in peace.

Who is Servet Kabaklı?

Born on 13 March 1956 in Elazığ, Süleyman Servet Kabaklı went to elementary, middle and high schools in Elazığ. He started Erzurum Atatürk University Faculty of Literature in 1975 for his undergraduate degree, and later got transferred to Fırat University Faculty of Literature Department of Turkish Language and Literature which he completed in 1981.

Servet Kabaklı began his journalism career in local Uluova newspaper in his hometown Elazığ. The same year he started working as Elazığ city reporter for Tercüman newspaper. He wrote columns for local Elazığ and Yeni Harput newspapers. Later, he worked as Erzurum city reporter both for Tercüman newspaper and Anadolu News Agency.

He started working in Tercüman newspaper Istanbul office on 29 May 1979. After 1986, he briefly worked for Yeni Haber newspaper but was later transferred to Türkiye newspaper. He also acted as the director of Turkish Literature Foundation in 1980s, and was the editorial director for Türk Edebiyatı (Turkish Literature) magazine.

Servet Kabaklı was the editor-in-chief in Tercüman newspaper in its new season before he wrote articles for Yeniçağ newspaper.
